Centrally-located AL Seyahi Hotel is a breath of fresh air on a grimy street that reeks of rubber and resembles a car repair garage. Walking up the spotlessly clean stairs, beautified with potted plants, you almost want to remove your shoes.
For many years this family operation was ran by formidable Madam Olga, who inspired a respect from her guests that was the talk of the backpacker circuit.
These days, somewhat older and frailer, she rests in the charming reception area, letting her capable doctor son and university student-granddaughter manage the place.
Staying here is still like staying at grandma's - picture chintzy lampshades, paintings of antelopes in mountainous landscapes, and clean sheets.
Rooms have A/C and fan; numbers 15 and 16 are the best with great big terraces that are ideal for kicking back and catching a cool breeze in the evening.
